So you have decided to invest in a home internet business. You need to generate leads or traffic to your website. How do you generate effective home based business leads? The optimal word here being "effective".
First, we need to define what is a lead and what qualifies the lead as valuable. A lead is a potential customer that is landing on a page of your website that will provide value to you as the website owner. What makes that lead valuable is when he or she drives value to your site. Value could be measured by purchasing an item, driving revenue by clicking on display ads or making your site more popular by sharing links. The more content the lead consumes on your site, the better.
So how do you generate leads?
1) Pay for leads service: There are many services out there designed to drive traffic to your site. Some do not explicitly tell you how they drive leads to your website. I would be weary of those services. Be sure you ask questions before you pay for lead generating services.
2) Display Ads: Display Ads can be effective in some ways, but need more investment dollar-wise than most other forms of lead generation. Also, Display Ads tend to have low click through rates associated with them. A good click through rate is 3%. So for every 100 times your ad is displayed, 3 people would click through. Unless you have a large bankroll to pay Advertising companies and the ability to pay for or create your own effective Ads, this method is probably not the best way to generate home based business leads.
3) Gatekeeper Page: A gatekeeper page is usually a single webpage that displays an irresistible offer to the person coming to the site to trade their email address for some "secret to success" or some other coyly worded promise. These pages are effective when the person landing on the page is looking for something specific. The more adept you are at creating these "special offers" the more email addresses and leads you can generate. One of the drawbacks here is that some people will enter in bogus email addresses to get past your gate to view your content. There are some tricks to prevent this, but that can be addressed in a future article.
In summary, to start out, I would suggest paying for leads. This will increase traffic to your website. Traffic is a good thing. Even if your website is not generating income at present, if people are consuming the pages, it can help you down the road to generate home based business leads.
